Looking for endless hot water? Then a natural gas tankless water heater is the ideal solution.
First, tankless water heaters provide endless hot water. 2nd, they only heat when you turn on the hot water faucet so you’re not wasting gas to heat water not in use. Third, they’re smaller than tank style water heaters and they can be installed outdoors which frees up interior space and eliminates the risk of CO poisoning and flooding inside your home.
Hanahan Plumbing Co recommends tankless natural gas water heaters because we believe they are the best option for water heating purposes.
Natural gas tank style water heaters have been around longer than most of us living today. They’re a tried and true method of heating water and generally heat quicker than electric water heaters.
They are less energy efficient than a tankless water heater because they heat the water inside the tank whenever the internal water temperature drops below the thermostat setting.
You can run out of hot water when using a natural gas tank style water heater. Usually you have a 50 gallon tank and you won’t get a complete 50 gallons when in use. Hanahan Plumbing Co recommends installing a tank booster when replacing your natural gas tank type water heater.
Electric tank style water heaters are common throughout the Lowcountry. They’ve been around a long time and in some places, natural gas is not available.
Any tank style water heater is limited in how much hot water you can get out of it in a short period of time. Again 50 gallons of hot water in a tank does not equate to 50 gallons of hot water in the shower. Mixing occurs in the tank and you will lose a few gallons of hot water.
These units are typically the cheapest type of water heater to replace. All water heaters need to be installed to code which will determine the final price. Hanahan Plumbing Co recommends installing a tank booster when replacing your electric water heater.
The newest type of water heater is a hybrid unit. These are very energy efficient. And the best part about hybrid water heaters is that they typically use the same power source as your old electric water heater.
The down side of a hybrid water heater is the price. Hybrid water heaters are very expensive. You can get rebates from Dominion Energy if you install one but the rebates won’t pay for it.
This is a great alternative to replacing your standard tank electric water heater but the price is going to be at least three times higher in most cases. And we all know price matters. Energy efficient is great but when it costs 3 to 5 times more, is it really worth it to us as individuals?
But the technology is definitely there if you want it. But make sure you have a licensed plumber install it or you’ll forfeit the rebate.
